Build the right kit for the project
Start with the bead size named on the project page. Mini and standard beads need different boards, tools, timing, and expectations.
The most important choice
These sizes are not interchangeable on the same pegboard. Mini beads create finer color detail and smaller components; standard beads are easier to handle and produce a larger flower from a comparable grid.
Choose mini beads when the tutorial specifies 2.6 mm. Allow more placement time and keep colors clearly labeled.
Standard beads can still form dimensional petals, but heating and shaping time will differ from a mini-bead project.
A practical studio setup
Use one bead size throughout a component. Color names and melt behavior differ between brands, so follow the project reference and test substitutions first.
A light, even fuse usually preserves more flexibility for dimensional shaping. The correct setting depends on the iron, bead brand, and protective sheet.
Use clean, smooth forms that will not mark warm plastic. Practice the required curl or cup on a spare test piece before shaping final petals.
Dry-fit the flower before applying adhesive. The support should hold the flower head securely without overwhelming the finished silhouette.
Perler, Hama, Artkal, MARD, and other fuse-bead lines use different names, finishes, and melting behavior. A color that looks similar is not automatically a direct production substitute. Use the exact reference supplied with the project when possible.
Work in a ventilated space on a stable heat-safe surface. Keep hot tools, warm plastic, adhesive, and cut wire away from children and pets. Follow the tool and bead manufacturers’ instructions, and provide close adult supervision whenever a project involves heat or sharp tools.
